Surfing one-eyed cat

I always thought that cats hated being in the water. You surely would have seen somewhere stories of how cats do everything to escape bath time.

Of course, there are always exceptions that prove the rule. This particular cat, Kuli, is an exceptional example.

She lives in Honolulu, Hawaii, with Alexandra Gomez and Krista Littleton, two roommates who adopted her. She underwent surgery when she was littler and now has only one eye. As she was recovering, Alexandra and Krista started bathing her to comfort her. Slowly, Kuli started loving water and feeling confident in it.

But that’s not enough! She doesn’t only like being in the water. When she got 6 months old, Kuli started surfing together with her owners.

As Alexandra told the Daily Mail:

“His first time in the water, we just let him float on the board by himself near the shoreline and I would paddle around with him. Before we knew it we were looking for waves to surf.”

Here’s Kuli. The surfing one-eyed cat.

His first time in the water, we just let him float on the board by himself near the shoreline and I would paddle around with him.

Because after eye surgery she was bathed constantly, Kuli started being really comfortable in water.

Before we knew it we were looking for waves to surf.

So we bought a board that Kuli would be able to get out on the surf with.

Kuli was found in the streets of Honolulu small and malnourished. Because of an eye infection, his left eye was surgically removed.

Before he could swim confidently on his own, Kuli always wore a life jacket

He still wears it from time to time depending on the conditions – but we are careful not to take him out if it is too windy or the water is too rough

The name Kuli means to look blind.
